Implementing Objective 2030

With the aim of helping its members to master the complexity of urban development and to bring a sustainable response to our society multiple needs, INTA has created the "Objective 2030" program. This program is put in place through several Communities of Competence that gather INTA's member into working platforms / thematic clusters.

The Communities are the implementation instrument of the programme, where INTA members can share experience, develop insights and build a knowledge pool on an on-going basis. Currently, 5 Communities are in various stages of advancement:

Metropolisation		Workspace Urbanism		Tomorrow's Habitat		Innovation for Services		Transmed

Although more Communities can be established, it is anticipated that there will be no more than 6-7 at the same time. Additional Communities that are anticipated are on New Mobility and on Creative Financing for Urban Development.

Mission statement and objectives

These Communities of Competence are designed to help members identify levers of action to take today to ensure that the urban areas of tomorrow will be more sustainable and more cohesive.

New approaches to urban development based more on environmental concerns have emerged. However, whether they propose new urban visions and new values, these approaches result in isolated achievements that can not meet the overall objective of sustainable urban development, as they are not articulated or underpinned by the integration of urban policies, nor do they create and in the absence of creation of economic and social value. A sustainable urban development is only possible if supported by a territorial strategy for economic development that is itself sustainable.

Sustainable urban development remains to be invented between all urban players, either technical or political.

These working groups have been established. They are the instruments through which to engage our network in more sharing of experiences, more dialogue about the conduct of urban policies at different territorial levels, more exchange on strategies, all with a view to proposing relevant solutions to the professional practice of our members.

The Communities of Competence develop a specific base of experiences, knowledge and insights, feeding into the programme Objective 2030, helping to articulate the vision of INTA members on future directions in urban development and providing durable responses to the issues facing the city of tomorrow.

The added value of these working groups - clusters - is in the density of exchanges between members, their ability to share specific problems, and "test" new solutions in response to the challenges of the future of urban development.

How it works

• Identify common challenges and explore adapted solutions among members of the CCs;
• Invite members and partners to address the challenges and to propose their own solutions (validated through a referential framework developed within INTA);
• Share international experience among members of the CC and between CCs at the occasion of roundtables;
• Seize every opportunity of INTA activities to increase interactions between CCs;
• Publicise the work of the CC on the INTA website and through social networks and to contribute to the general programmes of the Association
   

Participants
Each Community of Competence is composed of the following partners:

Animator
Each Community of Competence is led by an animator, member of INTA. The animator can receive support from the International Secretariat to diffuse information and work in progress within the Community and within the INTA network. The animator leads the Community, proposes a programme of activities, in interaction with INTA's Secretariat and the other Communities of Competence.

Participants
The Communities of Competence are composed of INTA members (associates and full members). Members contribute to the Communities by sharing their experiences on a continuous basis and at the occasion of the activities of the Communities or at other INTA activities. The Communities of Competence accumulate this input, allowing a larger continuity of the contribution of each member.

Expected output

The expected output of these clusters is the production of innovation for tomorrow's urban development, to be put into perspective and validated in the course of the activities that can be of different nature:

• Future-oriented roundtables: for a constructive dialogue between national and international practitioners on anticipated changes in a particular urban development field;
• Peer-to-peer panels: bringing together experienced practitioners to directly transfer their expertise to specific urban situation that deserve close attention;
• Training programmes: tailor-made training seminars, crash courses, internships, contribution to the Annual INTA Summer Course;
• Yearly meeting at INTA's World Urban Development Congress: where each Community reports on their progress and interacts with the other CCs and members.
